Gåseøje : Scarves Using Goose Eye Pattern

January/February 2021 : I am working on a suite of four scarves (180x35cm). Using a Goose Eye Pattern (Gåseøje). Weave in 16/2 Cotton thread (Bockens Bomullsgarn 100% Cotton).
Color Codes Bockens Bomullsgarn : 11, 522, 603, 731, 142 , 3070, 2080, 906 -
Why Gåseøje ? Lets go bact to the Animal. The eye of goose has a black pupil. A clear iris, often greenish. The eye contour is mustard yellow, often surrounded by a pinkish skin, before arriving at the white feathers. So, if we simplify : it's a red rectangle around a yellow one, around a green rectangle, around a black point. Recalling the textile Gåseøje.
Frequently, the origin of a name, simply comes from the nature around us. Gåseøje is a classic Scandinavian pattern, used for hundreds of years, so popular in Nordic history that finding the original weaver is surely impossible ( or at least very difficult). The shapes can vary, but the basic structure remains the same. However, depending on the variation, it is possible that the pattern takes on a different name, such as Orissa, Diamond or Sava.

Rosengång - Suite of the Alley of the Roses Pattern or RosePath Experimentations.

Mars/Avril 2020 : A Suite of samples that I made during spring 2020. Experimenting with the possibilities of the Rosengång pattern.
Weaved in 16/2 Cotton threads (Bockens Bomullsgarn 100% Coton).

Rosengång weaving is a Twill weaving. A Swedish pattern used in the !nordic countries for over three hundred years. Rosengång was the fourth patttern I learned to weave. After the Tabby, Classic Twill, and a twisted ZicZac Twill. I focused my attention on the RosePath - Or as I like to call it : The Alley of the Roses.
My first Idea, when I discovered this style, was experimentation. Explore the many possibilities that this one Twill hold. In November 2019 my grandmother (Anna-Elizabeth Bock) introduced me to the book : Rosengång (2012) by the Swedish weaver Anna Östlund. The essence of this writing was the eponymous pattern from its history of a collection of projects that one could try. Taking inspiration in this work I decided to attempt my own Rosepath project. The outcome was two table runners. The first in bluish colors (That found a home in a London Flat). The second was shorter. More experimental. Researching the many possibilities that this Twill offered.
But I was not yet satisfied. So I resumed the creative investigation in March 2020. This time I stayed small. The Idea was to create a suite of decisive samples which delivers a more colorful idea of the possibilities of this beautiful pattern. Short creations, but who serves as an idea for longer projects : Like table Runners or Scarves. Highlighting the large number of possible weavings. Although, next time I weave Rosengång, it will be to make a suite of rugs.
